EN Ambassadors

The Economics Network project dedicated to international experiences. At its heart is the National Model United Nations (NMUN), the university simulation of the work of the United Nations in which the association takes part with its own delegations.

The project and its key organisations

  • Economics NetworkA student network based in Padua.
  • EN AmbassadorsThe association's project for international experiences: it prepares and supports the EN delegations.
  • NMUNAn organisation that runs United Nations simulation conferences for university students.

Neither Economics Network nor EN Ambassadors is a United Nations body: the EN delegation takes part in NMUN conferences like other university delegations.

What is NMUN

The National Model United Nations, NMUN for short, is a simulation of the work of the United Nations for university students. Its conferences take place in several locations: today New York, Washington, D.C., Barcelona and Wellington, New Zealand.

During the conference participants work in committees modelled on United Nations bodies, such as the General Assembly or the Economic and Social Council, and discuss the topics assigned to each committee.

Each delegate represents a country: the task is not to argue their personal opinions but the position of the assigned country, with its priorities, alliances and constraints.

The work happens alongside students from different universities and cultural backgrounds. According to NMUN's official archive, more than 4,240 university students took part in NMUN New York 2026, over half of them from outside the United States.

The journey

How an NMUN experience generally unfolds. The stages explain the method: they are not the official schedule of the EN delegations.

  1. Preparation and research

Delegates study the assigned country, the committee and the topics on the agenda, starting from the guides NMUN prepares for each committee.

  2. Position papers

Before the conference the delegation writes, for each committee, a short document setting out the country's position and the actions it proposes.

  3. Public speaking and negotiation

In committee delegates speak, listen to other delegations and look for common ground, formally and informally.

  4. Shared proposals

Delegations work together on drafting proposals, which are debated and voted on under the rules of procedure.

  5. Reflection and growth

After the conference comes the review of what was learned: about method, teamwork and how to engage with others.

Skills in play

What the journey trains, in practice.

  • Research

Selecting relevant sources, documents and resolutions and reconstructing a country's position.

  • Writing

Stating a position clearly and concisely, from the position paper to the proposals.

  • Critical thinking

Analysing a problem instead of just summarising it, and weighing the consequences of choices.

  • Teamwork

Sharing tasks within the delegation and working with people you have only just met.

  • Negotiation

Defending the interests of the country you represent while still seeking agreement.

  • International communication

Speaking in public in English, in front of delegates from different cultures and backgrounds.
